Borderless and the wrong resolution

The hotfix notes say high-resolution detection was fixed on 23 October 2026. If the image is still the wrong size, set the resolution in the menu on that build before you add tools. Older guides tell you to put r_fullscreen off in user.cfg, sometimes with a SpecialK dxgi.dll and Borderless=true, or with Borderless Gaming. Those inject a DLL. They can break after a patch, and this site does not ship the DLL. PCGamingWiki keeps a living page for the games if the menu option is not enough. Build numbers are on the next-gen update.

Field of view

A 2017 Steam guide sets r_base_fov in user.cfg and suggests 59 on 16:9 and 65 on 16:10. The patch can overwrite the file. There is also a Nexus FOV mod whose author marked a build for this next-gen update. The author page contains conflicting game-directory instructions, so read the caveat on mods and confirm the intended package before copying files. This page does not certify the DLL.

Crashes and the flashlight

• Launch, 'press any key', and loading hangs are on the 2026 fix list, including an endless load on some new AMD hardware.
• Level-specific crashes called out for Last Light, such as the Venice RPK purchase crash and Nightfall out-of-bounds problem, are on the walkthrough.
• A dark flashlight is often an empty charger, not a driver bug. Use your current Controls menu to identify the flashlight and charger actions; defaults can vary with input device and rebinding. See tips.
• Steam overlay disappearance and Epic achievements were hotfix items. Install the hotfix and verify files before troubleshooting; an enabled Steam overlay is not a universal achievement requirement.

Save folder

Community guides put 2033 Redux saves under Documents\4A Games\Metro 2033\ and a numbered folder. Steam Cloud can overwrite a local copy when you launch. The Microsoft Store build of the 2026 update does not inherit old saves at all. Confirm the path on your machine before you delete anything.
