Metro games in order

Checked 24 October 2026

Play Metro 2033 Redux, then Metro: Last Light Redux, then Metro Exodus, then Metro 2039. That is the story order for the main games. Metro Awakening is a VR story set in 2028, before 2033, and it is optional if you do not have a headset.

2033's destructive ending is the story bridge into Last Light; Ranger is a stash-collection achievement, not the ending achievement's name. Last Light's canon bridge into Exodus is Redemption, not C'est la vie. Those choices are on the 2033 endings and Last Light endings pages.

Release order

There is no Metro Exodus Redux. Exodus has a separate Enhanced Edition; it requires ray-tracing-capable hardware, unlike the original Exodus. The next-gen update is a 2026 patch for the two Redux games only. How long the Redux pair takes is on how long.
