Metro Redux next-gen update
Checked 24 October 2026
The October 2026 Metro Redux update is a free technical upgrade for people who already own Metro 2033 Redux or Metro: Last Light Redux. Deep Silver's own line is that this is not a full remaster and not a remake. The 2014 games stay the 2014 games, with newer textures, lighting, and upscalers.

Deep Silver lists Steam, Epic, GOG, Windows Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The current PLAION FAQ says the free upgrade covers most owners and warns that some versions may not be compatible. PS4/Xbox One owners should confirm their exact edition's eligibility on the relevant store; do not assume that every disc or subscription licence qualifies. PS4-to-PS5 save transfer is not confirmed in the notes. The original announcement named November for Japan; the current FAQ instead says availability is still being finalised.
What the patch changes
- PC: 4K textures, denser geometry, updated PBR, screen-space global illumination, animation and audio work, spatial audio, unlocked frame rate.
- PC upscalers named in the notes: NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and 4A TSR for other GPUs.
- Consoles: native 4K at 60 fps, and a dynamic or upscaled 4K at 120 fps on a 120 Hz display. PS5 Pro adds PSSR. Xbox Series X adds TSR. DualSense adaptive triggers and Xbox impulse triggers are in the console notes.
- No ray tracing. The FAQ says ray tracing would mean an engine rewrite, and that work went to Metro 2039.
DLSS 5 is not in the official patch notes. Players found a DLSS 5 DLL in the game folder and outlets repeated it. Until Deep Silver names it, write 'not announced' rather than 'includes DLSS 5'.
Hotfix builds from 23 October 2026
Steam news S9 lists 2033 Redux as Steam 26159616, Epic 0.1.0.28, GOG 3.0.0.19, and Last Light Redux as Steam 26159638 with the same Epic and GOG numbers. The hotfix covers high-resolution detection, a missing Steam overlay, a Deep Silver comic reward, Epic achievements, and Ukrainian text rendering. GOG players asking for a patch version should match 3.0.0.19.
The Microsoft Store build does not keep old saves. Chapter select there opens on a new game and can hand you default gear. PCs below the new requirements can opt into the Steam or GOG branches metro_2033_redux_legacy and metro_last_light_redux_legacy. Picture comparisons are on the before and after page. Requirements are on system requirements. PS5 has the upgrade path in one place.
