Metro 2033 Redux walkthrough

Checked 24 October 2026

Use this as a chapter route and missable-task checklist for Metro 2033 Redux, not a screenshot-by-screenshot collectible atlas. The community walkthrough lists 27 chapter-select entries, with Tower appearing at both ends. Match level names before following an older Metro 2033 guide.

Chapter select, in order

Tower, Hunter, Exhibition, Chase, Riga, Lost Tunnel, Market, Dead City, Dry, Ghosts, Cursed, Armory, Front Line, Trolley Combat, Depot, Defence, Outpost, Black Station, Polis, Alley, Depository, Archives, Church, Dark Star, Cave, D6, Tower. This is the Redux order used by Cynic 0055's Steam community guide (S29), not the original game's seven broad chapter groups.

Route checkpoints

A practical planning route based on S29; not an exhaustive collectible map
StageBefore moving on
Hunter → ExhibitionQuick Draw requires keeping the nosalises from breaking the ventilation grilles. In Exhibition, listen and help people if following Enlightened.
Riga → MarketIn Riga, take the diary from the bar counter after drinking. Find the first safe key before leaving with Bourbon; details below.
Dead City → ArmoryDead City contains all 12 Ranger stashes. Keep a location checklist, not just an ammunition count.
Front Line → DepotChoose a no-kill/rescue route or the all-soldiers route. Raider in Depot requires the first guard to be taken out stealthily.
Defence → Black StationKeep filters for the surface and broadcast the Outpost message. Black Station's Merciful forbids both kills and knockouts.
Polis → ChurchContinue the diary route through the library sections; picking up ammunition does not substitute for reading a diary.
Dark Star → D6Follow the scripted companion objectives and collect the missile targetter in D6 before departure.
Final TowerS29 places diary pages 50 and 51 here. For Enlightened, return from the vision and knock the targetter down before the countdown ends.

Riga: where is the first safe key?

In the slum alley near the three outhouses, go up the nearby stairs and look at the metal support holding the overhead walkway. S29 places a red key hanging from that support. Turn back toward the outhouses: the safe is on crates beside them. Collect the key before trying the safe; this is not a combination-code puzzle.

Collectible targets are not world totals

Blogger needs all 51 diary pages. Thief needs 15 opened safes, and Soft Touch needs 15 disarmed wire traps. The guide explicitly continues to find safes after its fifteenth, so "15 safes in the whole game" is incorrect. Use the original author's illustrated route in the sources for every location. Ranger is the separate set of 12 stashes in Dead City.

Older routes may split Lost Tunnel into Lost Tunnels / Bridge / Lost Catacombs, or Dead City into two loads. Do not treat each original-game heading as a separate Redux chapter. For two-mode completion planning see achievements and Survival vs Spartan.

Microsoft Store save migration

The official next-gen notes say old Microsoft Store saves do not carry over and recommend a new game. They ALSO say all chapters are unlocked in chapter select and can be started with default equipment. You do not have to complete a new campaign merely to open chapter select. Store-specific details are on the update guide.

Questions

How many chapters are in Metro 2033 Redux?

The community route lists 27 chapter-select entries, including both the opening and final Tower. The original game's seven broad chapter groups are a different level of organisation.

Are there only 15 safes?

No. Thief requires 15 opened safes; the community guide explicitly notes more safes after reaching that target.

Where is the Riga safe?

Beside the three outhouses on crates. The red key hangs from the metal support of the nearby overhead walkway, as described in S29.
