Mask and filters
Last Light Redux tips
Checked 24 October 2026
For surface travel in Last Light Redux, keep a usable gas mask and filter reserve, and check Artyom's watch rather than assume every pickup grants a fixed duration. Plan supplies before optional detours. This page gives a route-based checklist, not an unverified timer exploit.
Mask and filter checklist
- Before entering contaminated air, check the watch/filter reserve and inspect nearby supplies. Do not begin a long optional search with almost no time left.
- Wear the gas mask in contaminated sections. Use the current Controls menu for the mask and change-filter actions; do not rely on remembered keyboard or controller labels from another version.
- Remove the mask when back in safe air. If the visor is damaged, look for a replacement mask rather than assume a fresh filter repairs the glass.
- If breathing warnings begin, act immediately: change the filter if available, return to safe air where possible, or take a nearer supply route. Do not rely on a supposedly safe 30-second unmasked window.
A supply stop the community route actually identifies
Before pushing the train with Regina, S30 points to a doorway on the right side of the tunnel where a gas mask hangs with a filter. The side passage also leads to a corpse carrying a safe key and an office safe. Search it before committing the railcar to the next section. Sundown and Nightfall are later surface stretches where optional exploration should be planned around the reserve, not a fixed "one filter equals X minutes" rule.
Flashlight, spiders and charging
In Torchlight, the community route recommends shining the flashlight on spiders to make them turn over before killing them, and using the lighter on cobwebs. If the light weakens, check the charge and the in-game charger binding. This page does not claim a universal default key or that a full battery always blocks the charger: those behaviours were not verified against a current manual or the 2026 build.
If a checkpoint leaves too little air
The official next-gen patch notes (S7) say the game no longer creates checkpoints with too little filter time, addressing suffocation loops. That is a reported fix, not a promise that every old save is repaired. If an existing checkpoint remains unwinnable, try an earlier checkpoint or chapter restart and collect supplies before optional detours. Back up saves first; see the level route and PC fixes.
No fixed filter lifetime, crack multiplier, automatic-change guarantee or safe unmasked interval is asserted here. The blocked community wiki pages could not support those precise claims in this review. S30 is a community route; S7 is the publisher's patch note. No playthrough was performed by this site.

Questions
How long does a filter last?
Use the watch and current reserve. The sources verified here do not establish one universal duration across mode, build and pickup conditions.
How do I change the filter or charge the light?
Use the change-filter and charger bindings shown in your current Controls menu. Keyboard and controller labels should not be copied blindly from a different version.
Where can I pick up supplies around Regina?
Before pushing the train, the S30 community route identifies a side doorway on the right with a hanging gas mask and filter.
