Metro Redux mods
Checked 24 October 2026
This is a source-checked index of two community projects, not a tested mod collection. Metro Reduxed FOV claims next-gen support but has an installation-path inconsistency. Metro2033ReduxVR verifies a specific older Steam executable, not every Steam or next-gen build. This site hosts no files.
Metro Reduxed FOV: author claim and a directory warning
MrSuS60's Nexus mod 37 is titled for Metro 2033 Redux. Version 1.2 was last updated on 23 October 2026, and the description explicitly claims next-gen support. However, its installation paragraph says to copy files into the Metro Last Light Redux directory. That conflicts with the page title. Confirm the intended game/package with the author before copying anything; this page does not silently resolve the contradiction or claim support for both games.
| Item | Author documentation |
|---|---|
| Files | winmm.dll, MetroReduxedFOV.dll and MetroReduxedFOV.cfg |
| Controls | F7 toggles the mod; numpad 8/5 changes World FOV; numpad 7/4 changes ViewModel FOV; side mouse button 2 zooms. |
| Configuration | Values and options are editable in MetroReduxedFOV.cfg. |
| Compatibility limit | Next-gen support is the author's claim; the game-directory wording needs clarification. Store-by-store operation was not tested here. |
The author calls antivirus detections false positives, but that is not an independent security assessment. Do not disable protection or add an exclusion merely because a mod page requests it. Obtain files only from the actual author page and stop if the file or instructions cannot be verified.
Experimental Metro2033ReduxVR: exact build matters
D-Rey86's GitHub README describes an experimental Windows x64 6DOF conversion. Its verified executable is Steam Metro 2033 Redux 1.0.0.3 with SHA-256 183EF65212E351C55A2832C3F3C8B04616B153697913D33B1E27683163F14E15. A Steam purchase alone does not establish that your current executable matches. The tested Epic build is incompatible and rejected by the installer. No blanket next-gen compatibility follows from this.
The author identifies OpenVR as the supported runtime and OpenXR as experimental. NVIDIA is the most-tested path; AMD needs more hardware testing. Known risks include expensive dual-eye rendering, flicker, menu double vision and low performance. Read the project's status and installer/uninstaller instructions before trying it. It is not an official 4A VR mode; Metro Awakening is a separate title.
Before installing either project
- Record the game, store, executable build and existing mods. Back up saves and every same-named file you might replace.
- Test one change at a time. An injected DLL is not a harmless settings toggle.
- For removal, delete only files newly added by that mod and restore replaced originals. Store file verification may restore originals but does not necessarily remove additional DLLs.
- This index does not certify objective-marker, multiplayer or graphics packs, and does not claim that none exist. Both unmodified Redux campaigns are single-player.
- Language projects have separate evidence and compatibility notes: 中文, Türkçe and PT-BR.
Questions
Does the VR mod work with the 2026 update?
Not established. The author verifies a specific Steam 1.0.0.3 executable and checksum, not all Steam releases or the next-gen update.
Can I install the FOV files in either Redux game?
Do not assume so. The Nexus title says 2033 but its installation paragraph names Last Light. Ask the author to confirm the intended game/package.
Is a Nexus antivirus label enough to disable protection?
No. A listing or author statement is not an independent safety certification; do not disable protection simply to run a mod.
