What the notes actually promise
Next-gen update, before and after
Checked 24 October 2026
The pictures on this page are promotional Steam store screenshots retrieved on 24 October 2026. Their capture dates and game builds are not verified. They are not a matched 2014-versus-2026 camera pair. Where Deep Silver did not publish a number, this page does not invent one.
What stays
Levels, weapons, moral points, and endings are the 2014 games. 2033 still has 27 chapter-select entries. Last Light still has 30 levels. The update does not add a chapter and does not turn either game into Metro 2039.
PC, as written
| Item | Patch notes | Not claimed |
|---|---|---|
| Textures and models | 4K textures, higher geometry | A new art direction |
| Lighting | Updated PBR and screen-space global illumination | Ray tracing |
| Upscaling | DLSS, FSR, 4A TSR | DLSS 5 by name |
| Frame rate | Unlocked | A mandated 120 fps |
| Audio | Spatial audio, improved assets | A rerecorded script |
Consoles, as written
PS5 and Xbox Series target native 4K at 60 fps, plus an upscaled or dynamic 4K at 120 fps if the display is 120 Hz. PS5 Pro is called out for PSSR. Series X is called out for TSR. Series S resolution is not given its own line in the notes we checked, so it is not guessed here. Switch is outside the update. Detail and the legacy-branch escape hatch are on the update page. Whether to wait was a real question before 22 October 2026. On PC, the update is already out.
Questions
Did the next-gen update change the story?
No. The notes describe rendering, audio, and performance. Endings and level lists are unchanged.
Where is the side-by-side slider?
We do not have a verified identical-camera pair from before 22 October 2026, so we are not publishing one.
