Metro 2033 Redux endings

Checked 24 October 2026

Metro 2033 Redux has a destructive ending and an alternative, Enlightened ending. For Enlightened, build up positive moral choices throughout the story, then shoot or knock the missile targetter off the tower during the final countdown. Leaving it in place launches the missiles.

The final tower choice — spoilers

After the last Dark One vision, return to the real tower. If the alternative ending is available, destroy or knock down the missile targetter before the countdown finishes. This stops the strike and unlocks Enlightened. Letting the countdown finish gives the destructive ending and If It's Hostile, You Kill It. Last Light continues from the destruction of the Dark Ones. Ranger is NOT an ending achievement: it is for finding 12 stashes in Dead City.

Why 27/55 is a route count, not a guaranteed score

Cynic 0055's Steam community guide (S29) logs 55 positive opportunities and recommends collecting at least 27. The author explicitly simplifies each opportunity to one point because the game does not expose their weights. That is not an official threshold. The often-quoted 50/99 figure uses a different community counting convention; it is not evidence that one figure belongs exclusively to the 2010 game and the other to Redux. Follow a broad positive route rather than stop at a claimed minimum.

Build a positive route before Tower

Community route priorities from S29
StageWhat to do
Exhibition and RigaListen to station conversations and give military-grade rounds to people asking for help. Do not rush the guided sections.
Dead CityExplore the Ranger stashes and side rooms; this is also the route for the Ranger achievement.
Front LineFree the prisoners for Rescue Ranger. Keep a no-kill route separate from the Hedge-Hopper combat task.
OutpostBroadcast the message for DJ Artyom before leaving the surface.
Black StationFor Merciful and its positive opportunity, pass without killing OR knocking out guards.
TowerFinish the vision sequence, then act on the missile targetter in the real world before time expires.

The guide includes a required revolver shot at a Dark One at the end of the final vision. Do not turn advice about individual earlier visions into a blanket rule that every shot in every hallucination ruins the good ending. Avoid harming civilians and follow the guide scene by scene.

A last-checkpoint reload cannot add moral opportunities missed earlier. If the choice is unavailable, replay a wider positive route. This is a source-checked community route, not a playthrough tested by this site.

Use the chapter route to plan stops and the achievement checklist for mutually exclusive tasks. Last Light endings use a separate system.

Questions

How many moral points guarantee Enlightened?

No official numeric cutoff is published in the sources checked here. 27/55 is a community author's simplified route count, not a visible in-game score or guarantee.

Do I shoot at the end for the good ending?

Yes: after returning to the real tower, shoot or knock down the missile targetter before the countdown ends, provided the moral route has unlocked the choice.

Is Ranger the bad ending?

No. Ranger is the achievement for 12 Dead City stashes. The destructive ending achievement is If It's Hostile, You Kill It.
